Alan Maidment was convicted of the murder of Thomas Jones 47. He had earlier been convicted of the murder of Paul Carlson 72 in 1999 for which he served about 16 years.
Alan Maidment attacked Paul Carlson with a hammer in July 1999 at Paul Carlson's flat in Manchester.
Nine months after being released for the murder of Paul Carlson, Alan Maidment attacked Thomas Jones in his flat in Berry Street after his ex-girlfriend, who lodged with Thomas Jones, told him that Thomas Jones had attacked her. He stabbed him 32 times on 21 March 2017 and then set fire to the body and flat to conceal the evidence.
After being convicted of Thomas Jones murder, Alan Maidment was given a whole life tariff.
